At around 1 o'clock on May 16, 2023, Yi placed an electric vehicle battery on the ground under the living room socket of a rental house in Ruibao, Haizhu District to charge it. By around 6 o'clock, the rechargeable battery exploded and caused a fire. According to the Fire Rescue Brigade of Haizhu District, Guangzhou City, the fire was caused by thermal runaway during the charging process of the electric bicycle battery, which ignited surrounding combustibles.
